My two current dogs and all other dogs i ve had in the past have one thing in common when i give them a treat no matter how small even if they could gobble it down in 1 second they will seek out a mat rug couch carpet to go to and eat over top of it.
My dog can t locate treats on the carpet.
Granted they don t do this 100 of the time but i d say at least 80 of the time they do.
Except it is a little different.
If your dog is scared this frantic digging can be an attempt to find a safe and secure spot.
To deter this carpet digging cause get your dog a nice cozy dog bed and encourage him to use it.
The black light now shows no trace of the problem.
Dogs will do strange and sometimes destructive things when they get bored such as tearing apart papers toys or chair cushions.
My dog does this too.
So the carpet is clean i think.
Steam cleaned the carpet and no the spots are gone.
If you see him digging the carpet clap your hands and say no and then guide him to his bed and give him treats and praise when he goes into it instead.
Makes us laugh and call him weird every time.
Dogs that carry their food to isolated spots of carpet away from other animals however may be looking for privacy.
You can start to figure out the issue by watching your dog when he or she carries food onto the carpet.
She may even dig and burrow in your bed.
However when it rains and gets humid outside the smell suddenly reapears.
I finally realized it and used a black light to locate the problem areas.
Boredom can also cause dogs to dig at the carpet or couch cushions.
To preface his food bowl is not visible from the the living room.
