Clutch only engages close to the floor how do i fix it.
My clutch engages at the floor.
Broken lever on the pedal top.
Try to adjust the clutch to compensate.
Of course this also means when the clutch is released it engages when the pedal is very close to the floor.

I m updating this because two identical cars with the same symptoms had two different causes.

There are four components that can cause the clutch pedal go all the way to the floor.
Otherwise the rod will adjust itself back into the master cylinder and you won t get the travel you need to release the clutch.
You could damage the clutch the clutch fork or the transmission.
The second beetle mentioned in this thread has now finally been repaired progressed to the point that the owner broke the shifter getting it into gear.
You have to make sure that when the rod is adjusted correctly the nut is secured tightly.
Non last this long.
My guess is the clutch drags unless i push the clutch pedal 100 to the floor.
Failed clutch master cylinder.
Pedal at floor dis engages it.
If the adjustments have already been made and the pedal is very close to the floor while engaging.
This will confirm pressure plate failure.
Do not attempt to start the engine and drive the vehicle with the clutch pedal stuck all the way to the floor.
